Specializations of Fysiotherapie de Jong

You can visit a physical therapist for a variety of complaints; we have several specializations on our team. One of them is EPTE. EPTE is a method that treats chronic tendon injuries by stimulating connective tissue repair in the tendon. Pain in a tendon is a common complaint. This can be in the heel (heel spur), Achilles tendon, patellar tendon, elbow and shoulder. ETPE therapy for chronic tendon pain is very effective. The complaint can be caused by high stress on the tendon. Previously, we could only treat these tendon complaints with exercises. Now we can also stimulate recovery with the highly effective EPTE therapy.

What is done in EPTE therapy?

EPTE therapy has a similar treatment mechanism to shockwave therapy. Shockwave therapy uses high-frequency vibrations to stimulate connective tissue repair in this way. Thus, it is a mechanical stimulus to stimulate tendon repair. A mechanical stimulus is also used in ETPE therapy, but with that comes a slight electric current. This creates a chemical reaction in the tendon, further stimulating tendon repair.

When is EPTE therapy used?

As mentioned earlier, EPTE therapy works for tendon injuries, an example being heel spur. Before starting therapy, an examination is done. First, an ultrasound is made of the heel spur, for example. On this, the physical therapist can see and assess what the abnormalities, of in this case the heel spur, are. After this, we will see if EPTE therapy for the heel spur (or any other tendon complaint) could be a solution for you.
