Through boxing therapy, feelings of stress can be reduced and self-confidence, for example, can increase tremendously.

Boxing Therapy

Boxing therapy is a form of therapy with techniques from boxing and kickboxing aimed at strengthening body and mind. For example, it can be used to increase self-confidence and resilience, reduce stress-related complaints or even trauma-related complaints such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

See article, "Can boxing therapy contribute to recovery from PTSD?" The Psychologist, September 2018), written by our colleague Rob van de Ven.

Why Boxing Therapy?

In our experience, martial arts can reduce aggression and stress in a person. Being physically engaged decreases tension and stress, making the proverbial bucket less likely to overflow. This creates the conditions to become a stronger version of yourself, both mentally and physically.

Research and treatment

The therapy starts with an intake interview. Here we identify your problems and get to know each other. Then we start learning the boxing techniques. The boxing training is built up from boxing on the pads (hand cushions) to actual sparring on the body, combined with specific exercises. There is an evaluation before and after each session of how things are going in order to fine-tune the continuation of therapy. In general, it takes an average of 12 50-minute treatments to reach your goal. With a frequency of once a week, this amounts to about 3 months.

Cost

Boxing therapy is partially covered by the supplementary insurance, the other part is at your own expense and is equal to the rate of a regular physical therapy treatment.
