Relieve your tension headaches with Fysiotherapie de Jong
Physical therapy can certainly have a positive effect on these tension headaches. The tension headache physiotherapist can identify the causes of the complaints. On the one hand, these can of course be tense muscles in the neck, possibly caused by tension/stress and/or incorrect posture. On the other hand, medication, hormonal fluctuations or certain health conditions can also cause tension headaches. The physio tension headache can assess this with you and discuss what the treatment options are within physiotherapy. But of course, you could also be advised to visit your family doctor or seek a solution for the high level of stress.
Treatment within tension headache physiotherapy may consist of reducing muscle tension, improving the mobility of the neck, improving posture for example behind a desk, but also possibly training the stabilizing muscles in the neck. The tension headache physio will tailor the treatment exactly to your specific problem.
From tension to cervicogenic headaches: physical therapy as a solution
In addition to tension headaches, your headaches could also fall within the "cervicogenic headache" category. This is a slightly different type of headache, as it is often on 1 side of the head. The cause of this headache is usually a pain stimulus high up in the neck. Often due to a restriction of movement in a joint in the high neck. This gives a radiating pain to the head. The tension headache physio is often a manual therapist who is therefore very good at distinguishing between the different causes and types of headaches. The tension headache physio can also draw up the most appropriate treatment plan. Should your headache turn out to be more of a cervicogenic headache, for example, loosening the joints high up in the neck could mean a rapid decrease in headaches. By improving joint mobility, the pain stimulus high up in the neck often recovers quickly, thus reducing headaches.
Tension headache physiotherapy can certainly provide a quick reduction of symptoms. Should the tension headache physiotherapist see no indication for physiotherapy for you, you will of course receive advice on what might be the right next step for you.
