Achilles tendon complaints

With Achilles tendon pain, you have pain at the back of the ankle, above the heel. The area may be thick and/or red. The pain is noticeable when walking and gets worse when the load gets higher (e.g., when running, jumping or walking uphill). There is often starting pain and stiffness, which may want to go away at first but becomes more severe over time.

Cause

Achilles tendon problems are caused by the tendon's diminished quality due to
overuse. Age, weight, position of the foot and
training can play a role in this. A thickening can occur due to the reduction in
quality, which can be accompanied by inflammation. In
an attempt by the body to repair the tendon, extra
blood vessels are sometimes created. This seems positive, but these blood vessels are not
able to withstand the stretching forces placed on a tendon and, as a result, send a
pain signal.

Research and treatment

We start treatment with a physical examination, possibly supplemented by ultrasound, to establish the correct diagnosis. Then treatment will consist of mobilizing and muscle strengthening exercises, taping and EPTE.

Cost

Physical therapy for Achilles tendon pain is covered by your supplementary insurance. Don't have supplementary insurance? Then we apply the following rates.
