Heel Spur
Pain under the heel is the main feature of Heel Spur. This pain is often worse immediately after getting up from bed or from a chair, this then causes pain and a stiff feeling. Walking is difficult for a while. After moving around for a while it often gets better, but after (too) long walks the pain can increase again.
Heel Spur
Cause
Heel spur is caused by a reduced quality of the attachment of the tendon plate under the foot (plantar fascia). Sometimes it is accompanied by inflammation. Risk factors for developing heel spur include: diabetes, a standing job, intense sports or having an abnormal foot position.
Treatment
Heel spur is a "self-limiting disease," meaning it will eventually go away on its own. As a rule, this can take 1 to 1.5 years. With physical therapy, we try to speed up this process.
Research and treatment
We start with a physical examination, possibly supplemented by ultrasound, to determine whether it really is heel spur. If this is the case, treatment continues with mobilizing and muscle strengthening exercises, taping and EPTE.
Cost
Physical therapy is covered by your supplementary insurance. Don't have supplementary insurance? Then we apply the following rates.
