Wrist Pain
Pain in the wrist is often caused by overuse or trauma, such as a fall. Bone fractures in the wrist are therefore common. Another common condition in the wrist is carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Features
The carpal tunnel is the passageway in the wrist through which a nerve runs to the hand and fingers. Sometimes this tunnel is narrowed, which can cause the nerve to become pinched. It often begins with a tingling sensation in the hand/fingers. The pain is often more severe at night than during the day.
Treatment
The symptoms are often treated by a doctor with an injection. Sometimes surgery follows to cut the ligament causing the narrowing.
Physical therapy often consists of exercises to reduce symptoms and advice to reduce overuse.
