Optimize Mobility and Stability with Sports Physical Therapy
What does a sports physical therapist add to treatment compared to a regular physical therapist? Sports physical therapy looks at how you move as a whole, not just the location of the pain. The entire chain is assessed in terms of mobility and stability. The sports physical therapist can optimize the reduced mobility or mobility with manual actions. These can be stretching exercises for muscles or joint capsule and mobilizations or manipulations for joints. These can be joints from, for example, the foot to the vertebrae in the neck.
For example, reduced mobility in the foot or pelvis can affect the movement pattern of your knee and eventually lead to symptoms there. Reduced mobility in the upper back and collarbone can again lead to complaints in the shoulder. So the sports physiotherapist not only specializes in sports, sports physiotherapy also incorporates many operations here from manual therapy.
Recover Faster and Prevent Injuries with Sports Physical Therapy
Not only is optimal mobility important, good stability is equally important. When it is literally out of balance, it does not mean that you will simply fall over. It can, however, mean that you are moving outside the ideal lines. This can cause the movement to take extra energy, overload a particular region or more easily sprain a joint. Especially for the lower extremities (hips, knees and ankles) the sport physiotherapist can do a lot for you. Besides looking at your movement pattern, the movements that are important within your sport are analyzed. These movements are looked at per joint and per action. In this way the sport physiotherapist will map what goes wrong at what moment and how this can be optimized.
So the sports physical therapist is the specialist in the field of movement analysis and can help you optimize mobility and stability. This will help you recover as quickly as possible and be ready for your sport again. Or it can help you achieve your goal of minimizing annoying injuries or pains.
As an addition to sports physical therapy, at Fysiotherapie de Jong we offer the option of ultrasound within our doors. Ultrasound can help diagnose muscle, tendon and ligament complaints. The distinction between a strain or a tear is difficult to test clinically but can be visualized well with ultrasound because it allows us to look through your skin, so to speak. This way the sport physiotherapist can better adjust the treatment plan to your complaint and your recovery will be as optimal as possible.
