What does geriatric physical therapy mean?
The exact meaning of geriatric physical therapy is to provide guidance and rehabilitation for problems that arise once a person ages. A geriatric physiotherapist specializes in caring for the frail elderly; for example, with dementia, after a stroke or with other symptoms due to aging. As a patient, in geriatric physical therapy, you are primarily engaged in exercise therapy; you learn how to remain independent and mobile as much as possible. Or you learn how to cope with loss of independence and mobility.
When do you qualify for geriatric physical therapy?
This therapy provides improved vitality for aging people. Older people who have problems with daily activities, such as getting up, walking and climbing stairs, can see a geriatric physical therapist. People who are afraid of falling, or have fallen before are also eligible. People who experience limitations after a stroke, dementia or other health conditions that occur with aging can see a geriatric physical therapist.
Where can I find a geriatric physical therapist?

After your registration, you will have a comprehensive and personal interview with the geriatric physical therapist and functional tests will be done. The physical therapist will see what she can help you with and draw up a personal treatment plan.
